Sailing and surfing
Do you want to go surfing on the waves of the Atlantic coast? There's a sailing and wind-surfing school in Marennes, and a few other surf schools on the Island of Oléron (see below). Indeed, many of the beaches around offer good surfing conditions.

The Charente river
From Rochefort to Angoulême, you can navigate on the Charente river over about 170 kms. While going up to Saintes you will discover magnificent landscapes.
Le marais Poitevin
In the nord of the Charente Maritime, between the bay of l'Aiguillon and Niort you will find the swamps Le marais poitevin. You can rent a small boat and navigate on the canals of the Green Venice, you can fish or observe the flora and fauna.

Fishing
The canal between Marennes and Rochefort nearby is a good place to fish. Alternatively there is also a good spot at St. Sornin 6 km away from the campsite.

A fishing license is compulsory to fish. You can get at the tourist offices.
Beachcombing
Beachcombing is very popular. Be aware of the regulations. It is forbidden to fish in oyster parks and locks.
On rocky beaches, you can find crabs, winkles or shrimps in water holes. On the beaches in Saint-Trojan and Boyardville, you can also find cockles and razor shells.
