More than 12,000 sea animals and 3 million litres of sea water
Observe the cardinal fish swim around between the red coral, the ballet of studded or glowing jellyfish, funny flecked seahorses, the pranks of clown fish, fascinating sharks or sweet sea turtles! The Aquarium of La Rochelle is one of the biggest private aquariums of Europe.
Sea Turtles
A lot of sea turtles wash up on the shores during the wintertime, because of exhaustion or injuries. For several years now, the Centre for Sea Turtles (CESTM) and the Aquarium has been developing an observation and care programme for sea turtles. Indeed, the centre give the turtles all the necessary treatment and care and keep them in optimal conditions while their return to the ocean near La Rochelle.
Orange Clownfish
These amazing fishes are the only ones that can survive the touch of the venomous tentacles of sea anemone. There is never more than 12 cm between the fish and its host anemone!
The orange clownfish is one of the species that breed at La Rochelle Aquarium.
