Chassiron lighthouse in Saint-Denis-d'Oléron

Coloured in black and white, different from its cousin the Baleines lighthouse on the island of Ré, the Chassiron lighthouse was inaugrated in 1836.

After having walked the 224 steps leading to the top (46 metres), visitors may contemplate a splendid view on Oléron, the island of Ré and the Atlantic Ocean.

The lighthouse museum

Visit the lighthouse museum that tells the story of a young shipwrecked sailor washed up at the Pointe de Chassiron. Follow the animated track and the 6 museum rooms holding historical items, information models, films and stories about the life of sailors and farmers from Oléron.

The modern gardens of the lighthouse

You'll be bathting in the flora and fauna of the sea, where you'll be taken along information points, turning tables, scopes and a relief map. Families will enjoy this pleasant track to discover the history of the Chassiron lighthouse.

The gardens received the golden medal at the victories of landscaping in 2008 as well as the label « remarkable garden ».

Maison de la pointe

Nestled at the edge of the cliffs behind the Chassiron lighthouse, the Maison de la pointe is listed as a historical monument.
